seems as we repair here in la barra de navidad, i get to have engine repaired as well as the rest of this boat—egads—but i will have a decent boat to continue onward with…..after all this i will go do the haulout and painting mess i need to get done, and inspection of hull……
good thing this is cruising, aka repairing boats in exotic locations….i love this lifestyle–it rocks….

Diesel runaway is a scary event! You got a Perkins 4-108 or summat, right? governors on them are not great, olde british design. Detroit 2-stokes do it alot, eating their lube oil, so they have a flap to close the air intake in emergency.
You can usually kill a runaway diesel by covering the air intake TIGHTLY with something sturdy (a hardbound book) if your intake is flat. also, firing a C02 fire extinguisher works. there are various other aerosols you can use that will stop it, and not damage it. I wish I were there, instead of here… Safer voyages, lovely lady

we stopped it by breaking compression by cracking injectors–was faster than smothering engine with that mushroom air cleaner in place–took less than 5 mins from beginning to quiet….as rpms increased rapidly…no overheat, no boom..so engine block is still fine and sans holes.
anyone coming here–please bring parts….can use hoses and repair stuff–i have no spares, as i could not afford em when i left sd…
