i have some friends here in la cruz–some cruising friends. some of her friends came into town and she went to play. he stayed home, as he is a home body, kinda–lovely couple–awesome folks…
he called on radio at 2300 ish– couldnt reach her. he then called me. i answered and he asked for my presence on their boat. i went. his voice sounded strange.
i got there– entered boat–he was talking to me–found him down. on the cabin sole.
i prepared him for incoming strangers and called on radio emergency –he was alert and responsive and having evolving symptoms. except he had pain on the affected side–unusual for stroke.
he was transported to a vallarta hospital. i went to find his wife and advised her of her husbands illness and transport to XXX hospital. she went with her friends to the hospital.
she called me at 0430 when she returned to her home–her boat–and radioed me that he was in ct scan when the mds and techs saw and watched his aneyurysm go thru changes resulting in rupture–they fetched her and the two spent his last moments with each other.
i am very glad i listened to my inner feelings telling me to find her.
i promised her i will remain in la cruz until she is able to figger out what she is gonna do.. she has a lot to deal with now.

my helper has a steel sloop.he is anchored in a designated anchorage with many anchor lights. last night he was sleeping and felt what he described as an earthquake.
it woke him. he went into cockpit to see a large catamaran had hit his boat at 5 kts without stopping, and as accusing him of causing the incident–some drunks cant drive–go figger–and much damages have been done to the steel boat from a stainless cable strung across bows of catamaran –the cable destroyed everything in the cockpit. radar, wheel, gps, binnacle, compass–EVERYTHING.
today we will see what is able to be done about this hit and run event–the cat is anchored near the boat h destroyed–this should be interesting. we are in mexico–cat owner goes to jail–mebbe both  for a month until is sorted out–hopefully they dont jail my friend, as he was innocent of wrongdoing, sleeping in a bunk in a well lighted anchored boat.
steel boat owner is my crew for my trip south….could be interesting….i just hope his boat is repairable in short order and little cost to his own self–is a good thing he isnt injured.

the death of bounty hits us hard–the inability to dewater a boat underway in hurrycame conditions is a scary scary event.
had those pumps been able to remain functional, the bounty actually could have made a successful passage.
this causes much thinking and burning of good wood we could use elsewhere–but is heavy thinking—memories of bounty while she was afloat, her adventures, her beauty underway–she was a wonder.
i hope her crew is recovering from their shock and loss—is only day one after the event that changed their lives completely—what does one do after such a loss when the loss was home and hearth…… too very sad…

la cruz marina is raising rates from 65 or so cents per foot per day to 86 cents per foot per day–ouch–will definitely dictate the length of time spent here..lol..to the anchorage nov1–mass exodus…….will be THE highest rats in banderas bay.

going to leave mid november for zihuatenejo. lookin gforward to this adventure–we have already a house and some kind of tienda and only have to walk 120 steps to the water, and …..HOT SHOWERS!!!! rodlmao
and my own bedroom in the house.
as soon as i learn the address for snail mail i will give it to those closest to me for needed items from usa..lol
i will be on anchor so i will be able to repair with more coin to spend and mebbe even be able to pay off old debts and get going in a forward direction. haul out ???? i hope is soon–this boat has not been hauled in over 10 years….
looking forward to this adventure and we will turn spot on for y’all to watch and see where we disappear into oblivion…or not…….

seems owner of the halcyon isnt  acknowledging his  part in the loss of his   beautiful  formosa 51.  is too bad he had to sacrifice  that gorgeous boat to  storms  when  everyone KNOWS not to leave a boat in zihuat  for summer stormy season.   the  boat had been hit by 3  ts  invasions of  zihuat bay,  halcyon  broke loose during third and most serious hit.   owner states was cut lose-but he doesnt know what a breakaway looks like. he could have salvaged his own boat, but he CHOSE to leave mexico during storm season, as do many.

this event  only reinforced  in me the need to remain with boat  in any   country other than my own.  when you stay with your boat, you have a nice opportunity to save that boat. or to keep it safe.  folks do not realize how  easy it is to lose a boat in stormy situations in UNPROTECTED bays.

we are readying for departure from la cruz de huanacaxtle, nayarit, mexico , in favor of locations farther south–we will be aiming for zihuatenejo, with mebbe stops on the way, mebbe not-depends on the trip and weather and seas and boat….LOL boat–she is a repair hog–loves her attention. engine seems to be in decent shape , finally–had to many repairs and maintenance routines,  as per norm with boats–fix or dont float.
have found items wanted but not in affordable range while here–spare alternator, gift; antenna tuner(works) gift; propane tank(works)gift with accompanying gas bbq i dont use–also a gift. a 2 stroke generator puts out around 800 wtts..gift; water hose, white, 50 ft..gift; .lol…we fortunate folks on this boat. found at reasonable pricing–complete screen cover for a 46 ft sloop, to be made into some kind of cover for this ketch, material for new waterproof covers for this boat, new mizzen sail, inexpensive, and definitely a plus to have; found 3 bp solar panels and a 10 amp mppt controller for very little dough in mazatlan–marine swap meets rock!! so do folks selling boats and dispo-ing their old necessary items with little regard for small change….wow!!!

i was fortunate enough , here in la cruz, to  encounter someone with a spare  engine manual for perkins 4-108…yes is now mine….whew!!!!!!  pricey lil devil,  this book…

we appreciate everything we encounter and we thank our gods and guardian angels for the opportunities we enjoy.

sailing season is coming…. rates here will skyrocket, as promised by the management–i guess all bets are off as far as who will be docking in la cruz marina in banderas bay. even the work docks are going to have pricing increases to become equal to regular rental slips…
seems there is more than one way to squeeze a turnip–i will be removing self from docks and returning to anchoring and saving some dollars, as this marina situation is killing my wallet…..
when i am finished with the repairs i want done here i will relocate to zihuatenejo for a few months then try to get as far south as possible for summer, or return of the killer ‘cane season.
at least on anchor i dont have to be concerned with the inability to afford foods vs repairs..which is more important–eating or floating……is a puzzlement at present..
i buy bubbas foods first before i buy anything other than rents….

sailing season begins soon–when the hurrycames dont come anymore is sailing season…. this year i am having a trouble with paws not being in good shape for lines and sheets for sailing–might have to remain here for a few more months dammit–is gorgeous here, but….is time to try to sail away–i hope these disagreeable paws relax and repair so i can again sail south!!!! good think i dont sail to schedules….
